For the purpose of functional demonstration and public outreach the Compass-1 Pico Satellite is equipped with a camera module that will capture color VGA pictures while in orbit. It is triggered and accessed via ground.

Above all, the satellites purpose is to provide an experimental platform for new and existing (i.e. commercial-of-the-shelf) technologies.
