The National Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA) of Lyon is a French "Grande Ecole" located in Lyon.

With more than 5000 students, 1000 graduated engineers per year, 700 PhD students and 27 laboratories, INSA Lyon is the largest engineering school and the largest Research Center for technology and sciences in France.

INSA engineers are particulary reknown for their high level of technical competencies among other top 10 engineering schools.

[edit] Space activities

INSA Lyon has a long tradition with Space technologies. Only ten years after its creation in 1957, INSA Lyon was successfully launching its first experimental rocket. Since then, more than 40 rockets have been designed and built by students, and then launched with the support of the French Space Agency (CNES).

Ten of these rockets have been awared by the CNES 1st prize for innovation and high technical quality. Three of them recieved the prestigious GIFAS prize (Lobbying group of French Aerospace Industries).

Since 2006,INSA Lyon is involved in the ESA ESMO project, aiming to design, build and launch a micro-satellite to the Moon.
